'Madagascar 2' kicks off this year's 'Movies in the Park' July 18

Free event offers plenty of family-oriented fun for all ages

Madagascar 2The City of Johns Creek's popular "Movies in the Park" series returns for a third year, offering a family-oriented evening of fun, food and entertainment.

This summer's edition premiers July 18 with "Madagascar 2" at Newtown Park. The 2008 release stars the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Jada Pinkett Smith in a prequel to the 2005 original about the adventures of Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Marty the Zebra and Melman the Giraffe.

Also scheduled are "Night at the Museum 2" on Aug. 15 at Ocee Park and an Oct. 3 movie at Newtown to be announced.

There are plenty of children's activities available including a moonwalk and slide, face painting, carnival games and more. Food vendors are on hand but viewers are welcome to bring their own picnic fare (although no alcohol is permitted). Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair, too.

The event is free. Activities begin at 7 pm with the movie starting about 9.
