JCPD Golf Tourney draws celeb athletes

Basketball greats – NBA Hall of Famer Julius "Dr. J." Erving and former Phoenix Suns/Georgia Bulldog forward Joe Ward – lent their celebrity to the inaugural Johns Creek Police Golf Tournament, helping the JCPD raise $26,000 from the tournament to benefit Special Olympics Georgia.

Held May 18 at the Standard Club in Johns Creek, the golf tournament capped the JCPD's three-month fundraising efforts for the non-profit organization, which provides athletic programming and services for 23,000 Georgians with intellectual disabilities.

Erving and Ward were guests and teammates of Herb Washington, an executive with CH2M Hill, the City's public/private partner and tournament co-host. Washington's team finished 3rd.

First place team winners were JCPD Major John Clifton, JCPD Corporal James Marshall, Bob Moultrie and Ara Baronian. Reynolds Black, Danny Clark, Lanny Limburg and Brian Collins finished as the 2nd place team.

Ashley Lebovitz, the 2009 JCPD Special Olympics Ambassador, participated in the tournament's opening VIP reception and closing awards presentation.
