What should the City do with the parks in Johns Creek? Are more needed? What kind of facilities should be included? What types of recreation programs should the City try to offer?
These questions and more are under consideration in the development of the City's first Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan now under way. When completed, the plan will provide a 10-year roadmap for development of existing and future parks, recreational facilities and recreational programs. And citizen input is crucial.
The five-month master plan process consists of five phases:
- Phase 1 - Project initiation / staff and stakeholder Interviews (April)
- Phase 2 - Park and recreation needs analysis /public input (May)
- Phase 3 - Existing programs, organizational structure, funding and facilities analysis (June)
- Phase 4 - Preliminary comprehensive master plan reports and presentations (July)
- Phase 5 - Final comprehensive master plan reports and presentations (August)
The City has contracted with Lose & Associates, a firm with over 25 years experience in park design and master planning. Lose has worked with cities and counties throughout the Southeast including Gwinnett, Rockdale and Cherokee counties as well as the City of Gainesville in Georgia and Williamson County, Tenn.
The best way for citizens to participate and provide input is to attend one of four public meetings.
