CPR/AED Training

DoubleGate residents learn how to use an AED from Johns Creek EMT Darren Johnson.
More and more residents are taking advantage of the City's free CPR/AED basic life support class. Last month, a few dozen DoubleGate homeowners met on a Saturday morning to take the class taught by the Johns Creek Fire Department.
CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is an emergency medical procedure for victims of cardiac or respiratory arrest.
An AED (automated external defibrillator) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses potentially life threatening irregular heart rhythms and applies electrical shock for the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.
"Both of these procedures are an important part of basic life support. They can really make a difference. We encourage all residents and business owners in Johns Creek to learn these procedures and to purchase an AED, if you don't have one," says EMS Coordinator Tonya Whiten.
Johns Creek is offering the free class as part of its "Heart Ready City" program. Johns Creek was named Georgia's first Heart Ready City by the American Heart Association in 2008.
The class, based on the AHA's "Friends and Family" CPR/AED program, runs approximately 3 hours and is offered to groups of at least 10 people. Recommended minimum age is 13.
