Special Olympics athlete Ashley Lebovitz has been chosen the Johns Creek Police Special Olympics Ambassador for 2009.

Lebovitz, a Johns Creek resident, will assist the Johns Creek Police Department in all of its fundraising events for the 23rd annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The Torch Run is the largest grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics. More than 1,000 Georgia law enforcement agencies raise funds for the non-profit organization, which provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for more than 22,000 intellectually disabled Georgians.

A student at Alpharetta High School, Lebovitz has been participating in the local Special POPS tennis program for a number of years and is training to compete in the Special Olympics Georgia State Summer Games the last weekend of May.

She will participate in JCPD's two main fundraising events: A "Cops on Shop" sit-in on the roof of Garrison's Broiler & Tap the weekend of May 1-3 and the JCPD Special Olympics Golf Tournament at the Standard Club on May 18.

Tournament sponsorships are still available and all residents are welcome to stop by the "Cops on Shop" sit-in for some food, fun and prizes. The cops will not come down from the roof until they meet their Special Olympics donation goal!
