2/27/2009

Johns Creek firefighters Chris Holcombe, front, and Carlos Garcia, rear, help Country Cub of the South residents at aMarch 8 CPR/AED class.
As Georgia's first "Heart Ready City," Johns Creek is offering a free CPR/AED class for all residents and businesses.
CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is an emergency medical procedure for victims of cardiac or respiratory arrest.
An AED (automated external defibrillator) is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and applies electrical therapy for the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.
"Both of these procedures are an important part of basic life support. They can really make a difference. We encourage all residents and business owners in Johns Creek to learn these procedures and to purchase an AED, if you don't have one," says EMS Coordinator Tonya Whiten.
The class runs approximately 3 hours and is offered to groups of at least 10 people. Recommended minimum age is 13.
