State of the City: Doing well, but challenges ahead

1/28/2009

Mayor Mike BodkerJohns Creek is doing well, Mayor Mike Bodker told a Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce audience and that is not his opinion – it's the City's citizens.

Bodker delivered his second annual "State of the City" address Jan. 28, noting that in a survey done last fall, the vast majority of respondents felt the City is heading in the right direction and approve of the job being done by elected officials as well as the Police and Public Works departments. The Mayor shared highlights for 2008 and plans for 2009, while cautioning that economic conditions may limit the City's achievements in the coming year.

Bodker also told the mostly business group that he and the Council will likely begin a public discussion about a possible transportation bond referendum that would require broad-based support to be successful.

"I call upon you here today, as leaders of this community, to help build support among your family, friends and associates," Bodker said. "If you believe that addressing our traffic needs is a key to reviving the local economy and improving our overall quality of life, you need to step up."

The Mayor also said the City would expand its "Choose to Use Johns Creek" initiative to urge residents to "choose to use" local businesses for all their needs.
