The Johns Creek Police Department named Corporal Detective Min Cha its "Officer of the Quarter" at an October 24 awards luncheon.

Johns Creek Police "Officer of the Quarter" Detective Min Cha, center, is congratulated by Deborah Hicks, VP of BB&T Bankon State Bridge Road, far left, Police Chief Ed Densmore, hiswife Christie, JCPD Captain Brian Weaver and Johns Creek City Manager John Kachmar.
Citing Cha's success this past summer in solving a major jewelry theft, Johns Creek Police Chief Ed Densmore explained why the detective was selected for the award.
"Cha is a very hardworking, diligent detective with strong work and personal ethics. He's an outstanding representative of our department and a dedicated public servant to this community," said Densmore.
Cha joined Johns Creek's inaugural police squad in April of this year as a Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division. He simultaneously serves as a Task Force Agent on the FBI's Safe Street Gang Task Force and has taken an active role in numerous investigations of various illegal gangs with ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement).
Prior to coming to Johns Creek, Cha served as a detective in the Alpharetta Police Department's Crime Suppression Unit and a member of SWAT. He also designed and implemented an auto theft/burglary tracking program, resulting in a 47% decrease in such crimes in that city.
He began his law enforcement career as a police officer with the Atlanta Police Department in 2003 and holds a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University.
"I'm really honored for this recognition of my work by my commanders. It [the jewel theft case] was a collaborative, round-the-clock effort with the FBI, ICE and Gwinnett County, so I have to share this with them," said Cha.
