Members of the 14th delegation from Israel to participate in Georgia State University's Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) program visited Johns Creek on November 2 following two weeks of "community policing" training with various Georgia agencies, including the GBI and the Atlanta, Marietta and Savannah police departments.
Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker, City Manager John Kachmar, Police Chief Ed Densmore and Major John Clifton hosted the Israeli law enforcement professionals from GILEE for a dinner at the Standard Club in Johns Creek.
A joint project of Georgia State University and local, state, federal and international law enforcement agencies, GILEE was established in 1992 to enhance inter-agency cooperation between State of Georgia law enforcement agencies and the police force of the State of Israel; and offer educational professional programs to senior Israeli law enforcement officials in Georgia and senior Georgia law enforcement officials in Israel.
Johns Creek Major John Clifton participated in the 2007 Israel program, which focuses on counter-terrorism and drug interdiction.
"My trip to Israel was amazing. I learned so much about law enforcement in another country, especially in the field of terrorism. The Israelis are experts on terrorism. The country was beautiful and the people were great. I will always support the GILEE program. After hosting the delegation for dinner, I believe Johns Creek formed a new partnership for many years to come."
To date, GILEE has carried out 113 programs for 523 law enforcement and other executives from around the world.
