During the 11th annual "Rivers Alive" clean-up campaign on Sept. 17, which brought out hundreds of volunteers, the environmental clubs from Centennial and Chattahoochee high schools won awards for the most trash collected and the most participants in the High School Challenge of the campaign.

City of Johns Creek staff pulled more than 600 pounds of trash and debris out of a 2-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River from Jones Bridge Road to Medlock Bridge Road.

In total, over a 10-day period, more than 700,000 pounds of trash, debris and discarded items were pulled from the river, Metro-Atlanta's major source of water.
