In conjunction with National Preparedness Month, Johns Creek announces its latest step in improving public safety services for its citizens and businesses - the launch of the Johns Creek Fire Department, effective 7 am, Tuesday, October 7, 2008.

At that time, the City will assume responsibility for providing firefighting services from the Fulton County Fire Department, which has served the north Fulton community since 1978.

"We are appreciative of the hard work, dedication and sacrifices the firefighting professionals of Fulton County have provided this community for the last 30 years," said City Manager John Kachmar, who announced the Department's launch. "At the same time, we eagerly welcome this new force of dedicated first responders."

To launch the Johns Creek Fire Department, the City is: purchasing two existing Fulton County Fire stations (3165 Old Alabama Road; 10265 Medlock Bridge Road); engaging in a complex debt service payment schedule for a portion of a bond that was used for the construction of a Fulton County Fire Station at 10925 Rogers Circle; and purchasing three engines (Pierce Mfg.), two 100-ft platform ladder trucks (quints) and two Quick Response Vehicles (QRVs), which are transport-capable.

"All seven apparatus are equipped with advanced life support capabilities, including 12-lead cardiac monitors with direct communication to area hospitals," said Fire Chief Joseph Daniels, who'll lead the 78-member force.

Incorporated December 1, 2006, the City's establishment of its own Fire Department follows the April 2008 launch of the Johns Creek Police Department.
