$30,000 grant provides thermal-imaging cameras for Fire Department

City officials receive grant from Fireman's Fund
City officials joined Fireman's Fund Insurance executives andemployees May 29 for presentation of a $30,000 grant to purchase fivethermal imaging cameras for the Johns Creek Fire Department.

When the Johns Creek Fire Department rolls out later this year, the trucks will come equipped with five thermal-imaging cameras thanks to a $30,000 grant from Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.

The devices use the best technology available to enable firefighters to "see" through smoke and darkness to quickly locate anyone trapped in a building. They also help reduce property damage – firefighters can often locate hot spots inside walls and extinguish them before they spread. With this donation, all five JC engines will have a camera on board.

The equipment is being paid for by Fireman's Fund, which provides grants to fire departments through its Fireman's Fund Heritage© program. Every employee is able to nominate a fire department for a grant. A special regional task force of employees and agents then reviews the nominations and selects winners. Carol Buckles, a local Fireman's Fund employee, nominated Johns Creek.
