Johns Creek City Manager John Kachmar today announced the April 26, 2008 launch of the city's first Johns Creek Police Department (JCPD).

The official transfer of law enforcement responsibility from Fulton County Police to the Johns Creek Police Department will occur at 12:00 a.m. Sunday, April 27, terminating the current Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the city and the county.

Fulton County Police has provided police services to the citizens of the Johns Creek community since 1975 and has continued to serve the community since its December 1, 2006 incorporation.

"We are very appreciative of the fine law enforcement services that Fulton County has provided us during this important start-up phase of our city and we want to sincerely thank them for their crucial service over the last 33 years," said Kachmar. "At the same time, we're looking forward to welcoming the members of the first Johns Creek Police Department."

Fifty-six officers will become members of the Johns Creek Police Department during a transfer ceremony at 4 p.m., Saturday, April 26, said Police Chief Ed Densmore.

"We have hired the best law enforcement professionals to serve the community of Johns Creek. We have a great Inaugural Squad," said Densmore. "We'll be ready for April 26."
