11/8/2007

National GIS DayMark your calendars to celebrate Geography Awareness Week Nov. 11-17 and National GIS Day next Wednesday, Nov. 14.

GIS, which stands for Geographic Informational Systems, is a collection of computer hardware, software, and geographic data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced information.

GIS Day is dedicated to making people aware of GIS technology and the contributions it makes in many areas of our lives, helping to solve problems related to the environment, health care, land use, business efficiency, education, public safety, and more.

On GIS Day, GIS professionals from the City of Johns Creek will help students around the City learn more about this technology and the many ways it is used.
