ALERT: Outdoor watering banned
State response to historic drought levels
9/28/2007
On Friday, September 28, the director of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) declared a complete ban on most types of outdoor residential water use in dozens of Georgia counties, effective immediately.
The ban is in response to the current Level 4 drought across the northern third of Georgia – including Johns Creek, Fulton County and most of Metro-Atlanta.
"The drought of 2007 has reached historic proportions, so it's critical we take immediate action to ensure Georgians have a sufficient supply of safe drinking water," said EPD Director Carol A. Couch. "All counties included in the Level 4 declaration are located in areas of either exceptional or extreme drought."
Prior to this ban, Fulton County residents were allowed to water yards on weekends, but now that is prohibited. Read more.
