City of Johns Creek appoints Planning Commission

Seven long-time Johns Creek residents have been appointed as members of the city's first Planning Commission.

The appointments of Rose Shane, Sondra Russ, Steve McCain, Dean Johnson, Brenda Yates, Roger Blackwell and Tim Jennette were announced by Mayor Mike Bodker, following approval by the City Council.

"The value of citizen involvement in the government process was never more obvious than in the incorporation movement to create the City of Johns Creek and we're very pleased that these citizens want to continue to contribute their knowledge through participation on our Planning Commission," said Mayor Bodker.

  • Shane, a Johns Creek resident since 1988, served on the Fulton County Board of Zoning Appeals for 12 years, was president of the St. Ives HOA for 10 years and served as a board member of the Johns Creek Community Association.

  • Russ is currently serving her second term as president of the Farmbrook Community Association. She is a former volunteer citizen deputy with Dekalb County. As chair of the Committee for Johns Creek's Community Development Committee, she authored the code enforcement section of the CJC's report to the Governor's Transition Commission.

  • McCain is a Senior District Sales Manager with Sanofi Aventis and served as president of the River Farm HOA. In that position he was involved in numerous zoning projects, including the Cauley Creek Water Reclamation plant. He currently serves on River Farm's Old Alabama Road Widening Committee.

  • Johnson, a retired program manager with the Centers for Disease Control, is a member of the Doublegate HOA board and has assisted on numerous zoning projects with Fulton County as a past board member of the Johns Creek Community Association.

  • Yates is currently chairperson of the Falls of Autry Mill Civic Board, representing that HOA on zoning, school and community concerns. She was head of the Zoning Committee for the Johns Creek Community Association and served as a board member.

  • Blackwell, a civil engineer with Mactec Engineering and Consulting, serves as a liaison between his Oakbridge HOA and neighboring subdivisions. He is chairman of the Oakbridge HOA architectural committee and is a member of the Citizens of Newtown.

  • Jennette is the Johns Creek City Executive of Security Bank. Through his long career in financing developments, Jennette has been involved in the planning and zoning of hundreds of projects from the development aspect. He's currently chairman of the Johns Creek Area Council of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.

The Planning Commission serves as a recommending body to the Mayor and City Council for the purpose of upholding and implementing the vision and objectives as outlined in the Comprehensive Plan and accompanying regulatory ordinances such as Zoning and Land Subdivision Regulations of the city.
