Council considers changes to alcohol business licensing
1/17/2007
Johns Creek businesses holding valid Fulton County alcohol licenses as of Dec. 31, 2006 will no longer be required to go through an additional survey and zoning review to receive an alcohol license from the City, pending approval from City Council, Jan. 22, 2007.
Advertising costs for existing businesses with valid Fulton County alcohol licenses are expected to be lowered to $225, a $605 reduction from the $830 charged by Fulton County.
"I feel confident the lower rates will be approved since Council Members have previously expressed concerns about the advertising fees and have committed to set them no higher than the level needed to cover costs. This change should greatly benefit the business community on an on-going basis," said Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker.
Existing businesses will be required, along with new applicants, to participate in a thorough background investigation before they can receive their first City alcohol license. The fee will be $800 and is not expected for future annual renewals.
"While I realize this is an issue for some businesses, we have significant concerns about the prior County process in this area and have a unique one-time opportunity as a new City to start with a clean, accurate record," said Bodker.
New businesses will be required to obtain a private land survey and request zoning reviews by City of Johns Creek staff. The advertising fee for new businesses is expected to be $300 (includes posted signage). Fulton County currently charges new businesses $1,100.
The City's annual fee for a new or future renewal of a Pouring Permit will be $30.00. Other alcohol-related licenses remain the same as Fulton County's:
- Renewals for Consumption on Premises: $3,200 for distilled spirits, $650 for beer, $650 for wine;
- Fire Inspection Fee: $30.
