Johns Creek Police Command Staff on board
Key professionals to lead city's law enforcement

JOHNS CREEK, Georgia—January 25, 2008—Police Chief Ed Densmore announced today the initial Command Staff members of the city's new Police Department, set to launch April 2008.

Commander of Operations Major Curt Harrell is responsible for the delivery of all uniform law enforcement services. Harrell began his 16-year law enforcement career with the Pickens County, Ga. Sheriff's Department and then joined the City of Jasper, Ga. Police Department.

He comes to Johns Creek from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, where he was a Precinct Commander, SWAT member and lead instructor of all high liability subjects. Harrell is a graduate of the Georgia Law Enforcement Professional Management Program and the FBI National Academy.

He holds a Masters in Public Administration from Columbus State University and also Masters and Bachelors degrees in Education from Troy State University. He was a public school teacher in Georgia for six years prior to entering law enforcement. He is an active member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

Major John Clifton brings more than 14 years of experience as Commander of Support Services. He served most recently as Chief of Police of Forsyth, Ga. and prior to that as Chief of Police of Porterdale, Ga. where he was a finalist for the Dr. Curtis McClung/Motorola Award of Excellence from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

Clifton began his career in 1993 in uniform patrol with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, advancing to Investigator/SWAT team before becoming Deputy Sheriff. Spending two years as a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, Clifton assisted in more than 300 drug related arrests before returning to Rockdale as a Corporal in the Criminal Investigations Division.

He currently teaches criminal justice and ethics in law enforcement at Clayton State University and holds a Masters in Public Administration from Columbus State University and a BA in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia. He completed the Georgia Command College's Professional Management Program and Executive Chief School and is an active member of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.

As Commander of Professional Standards, Lieutenant Randa Hafez is responsible for recruitment and Internal Affairs. She joins Johns Creek from the Alpharetta Police Department, where she was the Sergeant of Professional Standards and an instructor/Field Training Officer.

Hafez is fluent in German, Spanish and French. In addition to her training and command responsibilities with Alpharetta, Hafez also taught "Survival Spanish" classes at local police academies, served as a neighborhood PACT officer/liaison and mentored "at risk" teenagers. She also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children in Forsyth County.

She graduated in 2001 with the highest grade point average of her class at the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy, having earned a BA in Business Administration from Oglethorpe University in 1996. She is currently studying law at John Marshall Law School, where she is a member of the Law Review and expected to graduate in May 2009.

Chief Densmore said more Command Staff members will be announced next week.
