Community interest in Founders Day activities is growing
Parade, Santa visit, decoration lighting events spread throughout city

JOHNS CREEK, Georgia—November 2, 2007—Interest is building for the City of Johns Creek's Founders Day, a fun filled, family-oriented celebration of the City's first birthday taking place December 1 throughout the community, as the list of parade participants and event sponsors continues to grow. Here is a complete look at the day's activities:

Opening Ceremonies (State Bridge

Emmy Award-winning 11Alive News anchor/reporter and Johns Creek resident Karyn Greer joins City leaders and the U.S. Marines as parade emcee to kick off the day.

10 am
Founders Day Parade (W. Morton
Road west on State Bridge Road to
Kimball Bridge Road)




The Chattahoochee High and Northview High marching bands will strut their stuff along the approximately 1.3 mile parade route, along with color guards, antique cars, Scout troops, community floats and a special appearance by Santa himself.

1-3 pm
Santa at Newtown Park (3150 Old Alabama Road)


After Saint Nick finishes his parade duties, he whisks off to Newtown Park to hear children's gift wishes and pose for photos – parents, be sure to bring your cameras! There also will be performances by the Kids Gym USA Exhibition Tumbling Team, face painting and barbecue from the Atlanta Barbecue Club.

City Tree Planting (City Hall, 12000 Findley Road)


Johns Creek Beautification, a non-profit organization dedicated to the City's natural enhancement, presents a native white oak tree donated by Piedmont Landscape for planting on City Hall grounds.

4-7:15 pm
"Lights for Sight" (City Hall, 12000 Findley Road)


A music and holiday light extravaganza benefiting Georgia Prevent Blindness featuring performances by students of Johns Creek's award-winning schools. The Holiday Lighting begins at City Hall followed by a short walk to Tech Park's annual lighting of West Johns Crossing, with more musical performances and a birthday cake at Emory-Johns Creek Hospital. Those attending the evening festivities are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the "Toys for Tots" campaign.

The day's events are being made possible through a host of sponsors that include Ace Hardware of Alpharetta, CH2M HILL OMI, CibaVision, City of Johns Creek, Congregation Dor Tamid, Eagle Business Solutions, Expert Signs & Promotions, Emory-Johns Creek Hospital, Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Haven Trust Bank, Johns Creek Herald, Johns Creek Owners Association, Johns Creek United Methodist Church, The Peachtree Bank, Sawnee EMC, Starbucks, State Farm Insurance, and Wendy Butler Legal Association.

Individuals, groups and organizations that wish to participate in the parade have until November 16 to submit an application, which is available online at www.JohnsCreekGA.gov along with a route map.
