Groundbreaking Ceremony: McGinnis Ferry Road Widening Project
Friday, August 3, 2 pm

JOHNS CREEK, Georgia—August 2, 2007—The long-anticipated McGinnis Ferry Road widening project bordering Forsyth County and the City of Johns Creek in Fulton County begins Friday, August 3 with a 2 pm groundbreaking ceremony at 7320 McGinnis Ferry Road.

Actual construction in specifically-designated areas of the project will commence shortly after the groundbreaking. The first section of work will begin at Sargent Road and continue to State Route 141. The DOT's contractor will be clearing in the approved area and doing drainage and culvert work, while the utility companies relocate their utilities.

The $39.4 million project, which has a projected completion date of July 31, 2010, will widen and reconstruct McGinnis Ferry Road from approximately 1,000 feet north of the McGinnis Ferry Road/Sargent Road intersection to approximately 50 feet west of the Chattahoochee River bridge (approximately 5.27 miles) within Fulton and Forsyth Counties, Georgia.

At this time, some of the work will be done at night and there are no daytime lane closures from 6 am in the morning to 7 pm at night. "At times there may be disruptions to the traveling public by making the necessary road improvements to this corridor, but the public's support and patience will be greatly appreciated as we strive to complete this project on time," said Mickey McGee, GDOT District Seven Construction Engineer. "We will do the best we can to keep the public informed throughout the project and to minimize these disruptions."
