City adopts emergeny water ordinance; enforces restrictions
JOHNS CREEK, Georgia—June 29, 2007—In response to Georgia's severe drought conditions, effective immediately, the City of Johns Creek adopts an emergency water shortage ordinance, which establishes procedures for enforcing and adopting Fulton County's outdoor watering restrictions already in place in Johns Creek.
Outdoor watering in the City of Johns Creek is limited to Saturday or Sunday between midnight and 10 am.
• If your home address is even-numbered, please do your outdoor watering on Saturday.• If your home address is odd-numbered, please do your outdoor watering on Sunday.
All other outdoor watering is banned until further notice.
Exceptions to these restrictions are those businesses that depend on water for their livelihood, such as car washes and nurseries, and those who are trying to establish newly installed landscape and/or sod (30 days maximum).
These restrictions are consistent with outdoor watering restrictions already established by the Georgia Department of Nature Resources' Environmental Protection Division and modified by Fulton County for its service area north of the Chattahoochee River, which includes the City of Johns Creek.
The emergency ordinance also authorizes and empowers the City's Code Enforcement officers and Fulton County Police officers and firefighters serving in the City of Johns Creek to enforce the restrictions through issuing citations. First time violators will receive a written warning; second violations will result in a fine of $250; and third violations will require payment of a civil penalty of $500.
