Although we are a new city, just over two years old, Johns Creek is never the less a well-established community. Shaped out of the historic farming communities of Newtown, Shakerag, Ocee and Warsaw,
Georgia's 10th largest city is community that embraces our small-town roots as the foundation for shaping our future.
At heart we are a family-oriented community – 35% of our residents are age 19 or younger. Our children attend some of the finest public and private schools in the country. In fact, in 2007 Johns Creek was named one of "America's Top 25 Places to Live to Go to School" by RelocateAmerica.
More recently a Bizjournals study proclaimed Johns Creek to be the wealthiest city in Georgia and the 95th wealthiest in the nation. But while this study looked at variables such as income levels, home sizes and values, and educational attainment, our real wealth lays in the many attributes the City offers.
We enjoy abundant recreational possibilities that include three parks as well as the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area lies along our eastern border, offering ample opportunity for fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of our home.
There are 10 miles of multi-use trails (1.8 MB) in the City, and we plan to unify those into a comprehensive Greenway system.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy several top-tier private and public golf courses including the Atlanta Athletic Club, which will host the 2011 PGA Championship. And Johns Creek has hosted the collegiate Southeastern Lacrosse Conference Championship for the past five years and will continue to be the host city through at least 2012.
Johns Creek also boasts a burgeoning cultural scene,
led by the Johns Creek Arts Center, award-winning high school and community theater, and the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra professional company. And of course, we have a wide range of dining and shopping opportunities.
The services industry forms the City's economic foundation. Major employers include the world headquarters of Ciba Vision and national headquarters of Macy's Integrated Systems,
State Farm Insurance regional headquarters, and the headquarters for Saia, a regional trucking company, along with the offices of World Financial Group and Movius Interactive Corporation. Healthcare is one of the fastest-growing sectors, led by Emory Johns Creek Hospital.
As a government, we believe it is essential that we are responsive, transparent, and fiscally responsible. Above all, we believe that citizens' involvement should drive policy and strategies. We offer numerous opportunities and avenues for residents to be as involved as they want to be with their government.
Whether you are here to live, learn, work or play, we invite you to enjoy all the City of Johns Creek has to offer.
Regards,
Mike Bodker
Mayor
