Georgia law, in accordance with the 2006 International Fire Code and State Fire Marshal's amendments, requires installation of a fire protection sprinkler system (an integrated system of overhead/underground water piping which discharges water when activated by heat from a fire) in all commercial and office buildings. Enforcement of this law is outlined in the Georgia Fire Sprinkler Act.
Building contractors must submit fire protection sprinkler systems plans for review and approval, in advance, to the Fire Marshal in conjunction with the City's Chief Building Official. No work should be started until the plans have been reviewed and all comments, if any, have been corrected.
