Senior services center construction under way
Crews have started gutting the interior of the 4,800-square-foot old Newtown school to convert it into a senior center with two classrooms, a kitchen, a meeting hall, an office, and two large studios. Read more.
Chattahoochee River alert!
With Lake Lanier at full pool and regular rainfall, water is being released as needed rather than on a set schedule. That can catch people unawares. The river can surge 11 feet in minutes and the current will boom as well. Read more.
2nd "Movies in the Park" at Newtown on July 10
"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" takes place in the town of Chewandswallow, where weather comes three times a day, rain is juice and soup, snow is mashed potatoes, and wind brings hamburgers. See it at Newtown Park Saturday, July 10.
City dedicates station to fallen firefighter
Fire Station 63 was dedicated to Felix Roberts, recognizing the fallen firefighter's ultimate sacrifice and service to the community. Firefighters from across Metro Atlanta came to pay their respects and honor one of their own. Read more.
JC Leadership team builds educational pond
Several team volunteers spent the last five months designing and building a pond - filled with fish, ducks and frogs - to be used as an educational tool by campers and school groups at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve. Read more.
Outdoor water use / restrictions
Even though we're getting tons of rain, water restrictions are still in effect. A new system went into effect statewide on June 2 that allows watering only in the evening, between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m., and only on certain days. Read more.
