Special visitors at May 7 Town Hall meeting
 Mayor Mike Bodker will host Rep. Mark Burkhalter, Speaker Pro Tem of the Georgia House of Representatives, and newly appointed Fulton County Schools Superintendent and JC resident Dr. Cindy Loe at the next Town Hall Meeting May 7.

Citizens turn out for Comp Plan open house
Approximately 100 citizens attended the April 24 Comprehensive Plan open house. Attendees could review the results from six workshops covering land use, transportation and green space and provide feedback. Project consultants and staff now move forward with development of the “Community Agenda” – the actual plan.
The next meeting of the Citizens Advisory Committee, Transportation Subcommittee and Green Plan Subcommittee is scheduled for May 13. Click here for complete Comprehensive Plan information, meeting schedules and materials.
The Transportation Subcommittee will hold a special-called meeting Monday, May 5, 7 pm, in the Ocee Conference Room, 4th floor, City Hall.
Police now patrolling; save new phone numbers
With much fanfare, the City’s first Police Department began shortly after midnight, April 27. Nearly 200 people came to an official Opening Ceremony at JCPD headquarters, as the “Inaugural Squad” was introduced for the first time by Police Chief Ed Densmore.
“It is not just a special day, but a significant stage in our dedication to provide the best municipal services possible for the citizens and businesses of Johns Creek,” said Densmore.

Movies in the Park return May 24 at Newtown
Get out the blanket and picnic basket and prepare to join us for this year’s Movies in the Park. The first movie is scheduled for May 24 at Newtown Park featuring “Bee Movie,” an animated comedy starring the voices of Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellwinger.
The second movie night takes place June 28 at Ocee Park. The title has not yet been announced.
Children’s activities are available from 7 pm until the movie starts at dusk. Food vendors will also be available. No alcohol please!
Movies in the Park is sponsored by Northside Hospital Forsyth, Atlanta Babies and Kids, and Southern Outdoor Cinema, along with Country Boy Trailers, WSB AM 750 and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.
Recruiting for Fire Dept. later this month
Chief Joseph Daniels is launching recruiting efforts for the City’s Fire Department later this month. The department needs approximately 65 firefighters when it expects to begin operations in August.

Medlock Bridge resurfacing

The resurfacing of approximately 5.5 miles of SR-141 / Medlock Bridge Road is under way. According to GDOT, work takes place between 8 pm and 5 am Sunday night through Friday morning and 8 pm and 8 am Friday night through Sunday morning. Expect lane closures and possible delays.
In addition to removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt and adding new striping, the project also includes the addition of a left turn lane in each direction at the State Bridge Road intersection.
C.W. Mathews Contracting Co. is leading the $3.6 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of July. See map.
Two more chances to provide redistricting input
You have two chances remaining - May 5 and May 20 - to learn about and provide input on the redistricting process for the new Johns Creek high school, set to open August 2009. All meetings are 7-9 pm at Autrey Mill Middle School.

Registration continues for Summer Day Camp
Youngsters ages 6-12 can enjoy a week full of games, arts and crafts, entertainment, field trips and more at the Recreation and Parks Division’s Summer Day Camp program taking place in June. Registration is now underway for the four one-week sessions and is limited to 50 campers per week. Cost is $200 per week.
Registration forms are available on-line or call 678-512-3200 to request one. Proof of age and residency is required for each camper.
 Pitch, Hit & Run results and photos
Results from the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition hosted by the Recreation and Parks Division April 20 at Ocee Park are now available on the City Web site, along with photos from the event.
 Spring CityLink now available
The spring edition of “CityLink,” the Johns Creek quarterly print newsletter, is now available online and at City Hall, as well as select locations around the city. It features stories on the new police squad, the value of weather radios, Felix Roberts posthumous service, spring photos and more.
