Recognizing National Nurses Day, May 6th
May 6-12 is National Nurses Week
The Mayor and City Council recognized our Emory-Johns Creek Hospital nurses along with their 2.9 million colleagues nationwide as part of 2008 National Nurses Week May 6-12.
Accepting a proclamation at the May 5 Council meeting were nurses Gloria Nunn, Kim Bentley, Rita Shingleton and Gretchen Groofers.
Georgia Disaster Registration deadline is May 19
The clock is counting down for any Georgia resident who had property damage or other losses from the tornadoes and severe storms that ripped across the state in mid-March. Only two weeks remain to register for federal-state disaster assistance.
The Presidential disaster declaration set a 60-day period for residents in Bartow, Burke, DeKalb, Floyd, Fulton, Jefferson and Polk counties to apply. The deadline is May 19. Read more. |

Johns Creek Police Department
The JCPD is here to serve
With much fanfare, the City's first Police Department began shortly after midnight, April 27. Nearly 200 people came to an official Opening Ceremony at JCPD headquarters, as the "Inaugural Squad" was introduced for the first time by Police Chief Ed Densmore.
"It is not just a special day, but a significant stage in our dedication to provide the best municipal services possible for the citizens and businesses of Johns Creek," said Densmore.
The "Inaugural Squad" is made up of 56 law enforcement professionals, whose motto is to serve the community with Justice, Courage, Professionalism and Dedication.

Medlock Bridge resurfacing under way
Sunday-Thursday

The Georgia Department of Transportation has started resurfacing the approximately 5.5 miles of SR-141 / Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek April 28. Work takes place between 8 pm and 5 am Sunday night through Friday morning and 8 pm and 8 am Friday night through Sunday morning. Expect lane closures and possible delays.
In addition to removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt and adding new striping, the project also includes the addition of a left turn lane in each direction at the State Bridge Road intersection.
C.W. Mathews Contracting Co. is leading the $3.6 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of July. See map. |

Summer Day Camp registration is underway
Registration for the city's Summer Day Camp program, for children ages 6-12, is underway. The program, available to city residents only, offers campers a week filled with games, arts and crafts, entertainment, field trips and more.
Camp operates at Findley Oaks Elementary School, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. There are four one-week sessions available: June 2-6, 9-13, 16-20 and 23-27.
The Recreation and Parks Division is also seeking camp counselors, age 18 or older.

Redistricting for new JC high school
You have one more chance – May 20 – to learn about and provide input on the redistricting process for the new JC high school, set to open August 2009. The meeting is at Autrey Mill Middle School from 7-9 pm. You can follow the redistricting progress here.
The City provides this information as a community service. All comments or questions on the redistricting process should be directed to the Fulton County School System. |
