Recycling & Waste Disposal
The City of Johns Creek does not provide residential curbside recycling services, but there are a number of options available through licensed private municipal solid waste haulers. Most private haulers serving the city provide residential curbside recycling services for paper, glass and plastic.
The Southeast Paper Recycling Corporation maintains paper recycling bins (green and red, marked "SP Recycling") for public use at: Wilson Creek, Dolvin and Barnwell elementary schools; Taylor Road Middle School; and Northview High School. All grades of paper (office, magazines, newspaper, junk mail) can be put in the SP bins. NO cardboard or bags.

Bulky Recycling and Trash Amnesty Day
Each spring, the city and Keep Johns Creek Beautiful present a "Bulky Recycling and Trash Amnesty Day" for residents.
Residents can dispose of large items not suitable for household trash at this event and items are recycled (steel and appliances), reused (furniture and mattresses in good condition are donated to a local charity) or shredded and recycled (televisions, computers and electronics) by a reputable Georgia company according to EPA standards. Other items are sent to landfills.

"Bring One for the Chipper"
"Bring One for the Chipper" is Georgia's annual Christmas tree recycling program. Each year, Keep Georgia Beautiful and its local affiliates work with private sponsors to organize recycling events across the state, attracting thousands of volunteers and recyclers.
Since its inception, the state-wide program has recycled over 4.8 million Christmas trees. The mulch is used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects, and individual yards.
You can support the Chipper program by bringing your cut Christmas tree to your closest designated drop off site or volunteering with Keep Johns Creek Beautiful to collect trees.
Household Hazardous Waste Day
The city partners with Keep Johns Creek Beautiful to host events where residents can dispose of old paint, solvents, pesticides, herbicides, batteries and other hazardous household materials stored in the garage or basement.

Source reduction and reuse
According to Keep America Beautiful, more than 55 million tons of municipal solid waste was source-reduced in the U.S. in 2000, up from just over 500,000 tons in 1992. Source reduction is simply creating less waste through changes in design, manufacture, packaging or use of a product; using fewer toxic substances; reusing or extending the life of products and packaging; and composting.
Reusing products is simply donating, refilling, repairing, reusing, rebuilding or reselling products and packaging instead of throwing them in the trash. If you can't reuse a product, there are usually others in the community that can. The Reuse Development Organization tracks more than 6,000 reuse centers in the U.S.
Freecycle is an online resource (more than 5 million members worldwide) and non-profit organization, which helps redistribute and share unwanted products with others in your area.
