Public / Private Partnership

A public-private partnership is a contractual agreement between a public agency and private-sector entity, allowing the public agency access to private-sector expertise.

According to the National Council for Public-Private Partnerships, public-private partnerships have been in use in the US for over 200 years and are quite common. Today, 23 out of 65 basic municipal services in the average American city are delivered through public private partnerships and are increasing due to their effectiveness in meeting the public's needs, improving the quality of services and reducing costs.

Since its 2006 incorporation, Johns Creek has retained CH2M Hill to provide a wide range of municipal services, including administration, public works and community development. The firm was chosen through a competitive selection process.

CH2M Hill is a Denver-based full-service engineering, consulting, construction and operations firm founded in 1946. The employee-owned company has 24,000 employees worldwide and $5 billion in annual revenue.

The goal of the Johns Creek/CH2M Hill partnership is to achieve optimized operations, cost-effective services and long-term sustainability for the City and its citizens.

The partnership was recognized as among the nation's best when the United States Conference of Mayors presented its annual Public/Private Partnership Awards in Jan. 2008. The Conference established the awards to encourage businesses and cities to work together to improve local communities. Selection criteria include improvement in delivery of services, replicability, sustainability, cost savings, creativity of approach and economic and business benefits. The award was one of 10 Public/Private Partnership Awards presented by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goldman, Chairman of the Conference.
