Mayor Pro Tem & Post 3: Karen Richardson
Johns Creek Mayor Pro Tem Karen Richardson brings years of experience in strategic thinking and planning to her work on the City Council, having served on the Council since the City's 2006 incorporation.
Not affiliated with any political party, Richardson is an independent thinker and applies that independent thought to all council actions particularly zoning decisions which must follow the City's 2030 Comprehensive Plan. Her interest in community development began prior to incorporation when she represented the community on zoning cases in front of the Fulton County Commission.
As a wife and mother, Richardson originally got involved in the Johns Creek community as a member of the Windermere Park Homeowners Association, and later played an active part in the grassroots movement that led to the City's incorporation.
She continues to be active with the PTAs of her children's schools, having served through the years on elementary, middle, high and district PTA boards. Richardson is also a strong supporter of the Johns Creek Arts Center and Johns Creek Beautification, and serves on the Advisory Board of Johns Creek Advantage, the city's economic development corporation.
She is currently employed by Northside Hospital as a Human Resources Integration Specialist.
A native of Scarsdale, New York, Richardson and her husband, Eric, relocated to the Ocee community of Johns Creek in 1998. Their three children have graduated from or are attending public schools in Johns Creek.
Richardson holds a BA in History from the University of Rochester and an MS in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation from Syracuse University. She was formerly an educational consultant with the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York.
