Municipal elections for Mayor and City Council are held and conducted in accordance with Title 2 of the O.C.G.A., the Georgia Election Code.
Candidates for Mayor and City Council run at-large and are voted on by the registered voters of the entire city, not by districts or posts or any geographic designation.
Municipal Elections are held in accordance with the Georgia Election Code and elected officials take their Oath of Office the first meeting in January immediately following their election. Officials serve four year terms and/or until their successors are elected.
Johns Creek Municipal Elections are nonpartisan and are held without primaries.
Fulton County Registration & Elections oversees and administers the voter registration and elections process for all Fulton County residents and municipalities, including Johns Creek. Voter Registration Applications may be picked up at City Hall, Spruill Oaks Library and Ocee Library. Voters may find their precinct location information on the Fulton County Registration and Elections website.
Per the City Code
, anyone wishing to qualify and run for Mayor or City Council must:
- be 21 years of age;
- have lived in the City of Johns Creek for 12 months immediately preceding election;
- continue to live in the City of Johns Creek during period of service, if elected;
- be registered and qualified to vote in municipal elections within city.
The qualification period for each municipal election precedes the election by a few months (usually the last week of August prior to a November General Election).
The qualification process is handled by the City Clerk during specified hours on designated dates as prescribed by the Georgia Election Code, and qualifying takes place at Johns Creek City Hall, 12000 Findley Road, Suite 400, Johns Creek, Georgia 30097.
The qualifying fee is 3 percent of the total gross salary of the elected position for the preceding year. (2013 qualification fees: $750/Mayor seat; $450/Council seat.) Fees must be paid in cash or by check.
